Who doesn’t love animals? Big or small, fluffy or scaly, all shapes and sizes, from gentle giants to fearsome predators, the animal kingdom is filled with such unique specimens of nature. For today’s supplier spotlight, we take a look at the fantastic work of Dawn Maciocia. Someone who has captured the spirit and essence of all creatures great and small in her stunning artwork.

Dawn Maciocia is a Scottish artist based in Markinch, Fife. An artist at heart, she has been creating intriguing pieces based on animal life for years. As a child, she would take the family dog for walks and sketch birds and animals, cementing a love and appreciation for animals that has stayed with her throughout her life and has become the main inspiration for her work.

Speaking of her work, it radiates vibrancy. It utilises bright colours and various textures. Dawn creates characters in her art from a wee field mouse dangling off a dandelion to a Highland Coo being accosted by butterflies even giving the animals on their own names.

The art itself is created by a mixture of different techniques learned by Dawn while studying an HNC in Art & Design. Using acrylics, inks and torn paper, the animal and the wildlife around it take shape, coming together to create a piece of art that stands out and catches the eye. When you come into the shop, her work is one of the first things that you see, and it’s not even right in front of you! The colours catch the eye immediately.
