English Book - Davis

A name that is particularly prevalent in Wales, ‘Davis’ is of ancient Brythonic, or British, roots and is steeped in Celtic legend.

Its bearers feature prominently in the historical record – with Moll Davis the actress, singer and courtesan who was a mistress of King Charles 11, John Davis a famed navigator during the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1 and, on a note of infamy, Howell Davis was a notorious early eighteenth century pirate.
