Found throughout the British Isles but particularly identified with Wales, ‘Morgan’ is a name whose bearers are heirs to a rich and colourful heritage.
Of ancient Celtic roots and steeped in myth and legend, the name lends itself to the fertility goddess Morgan, also known as ‘The Phantom Queen.’
On the high seas, one particularly infamous bearer of the name was the English Royal Navy admiral, privateer and pirate Sir Henry Morgan who, feared as one of the most ruthless pirates on the Spanish Main, has been immortalised in a number of books and films that notably include the 1935 Captain Blood, starring a swashbuckling Errol Flynn.
